High-Quality Neurological Care in Your Backyard

The brain is your body’s control center. If there’s a problem with your neurological processes, then you have a full-body problem. Southeastern Med is equipped with the latest equipment and testing to diagnose neurological disorders and treat them accordingly.

Our Neurology Department offers the following tests:

  • Computerized Axial Tomography – A computer analysis comprised of a series of cross-sectional body scans, which are used to craft a 3D image of organs and tissue. This process is especially helpful in detecting tumors and brain aneurysms.
  • Electroencephalography (EEG) – An EEG is taken by placing electrodes along the scalp and using them to record the brain’s electrical activity for a period of time (usually 20-40 minutes). The data collected in this process is primarily used to diagnose epilepsy, but the applications can include comas, encephalopathies and brain death.
  • Electromyography (EMG) – EMGs consist of recording the electrical activity of muscle cells. Like an EEG, electrodes are placed around the area of concern and information is gathered. The EMG can reveal both nerve and muscle dysfunction and problems with neurological signal transmission.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – With a combination of magnetic fields and radio waves, an MRI produces detailed images of your bodily organs and tissues. MRI machines are basically large magnets in which you lie inside. The magnetic field is used to align the water molecules in your body. Radio waves produce faint signals in those particles, which are used to make cross-sectional images. MRI machines can also produce 3D images.
