Spiritual Care

Mind, Body, and Soul

At Southeastern Medical Center, we recognize the importance of caring for the whole person – body, mind and spirit. This includes a genuine respect for the beliefs and values of each patient, and an appreciation for how certain beliefs or traditions might impact your approach to treatment and recovery.

We make a point of providing dedicated spiritual and emotional care whenever it is sought. Our chaplains are available 24 hours a day by request, and can offer patients hope, guidance, comfort, prayer, and support throughout their hospital journey. To reach Spiritual Care at the hospital, ask your caregiver to page the chaplain or to contact the on-call chaplain. Or, you can call 740.439.8190 to reach the chaplain directly.

Advance Directives
Advance directives, such as Durable Power of Attorney and a Living Will, are ways to express your unique healthcare wishes. Advance directives allow everyone involved in your patient care, including your healthcare team and your family, to know your wishes before treatment occurs. They are especially helpful in the event that you can’t communicate your wishes to us.

If you do have an advance directive, we’ll need to have a copy of it on file. Someone from your patient care team will review it with you to be sure it expresses your current wishes.

If you don’t have an advance directive on file, we can provide you with information to help you control the extent and intensity of your care.

If you’d like information on advance directives, tell your nurse or contact our Spiritual Care (ext. 8190) or Social Services (ext. 8117) departments.

Organ & Tissue Donation
Did you know that just one person can save or improve the lives of as many as 50 people through the gift of organ and tissue donation? Across the country, there are nearly 120,000 people waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. More than 3,000 are Ohioans. Every day, 18 people will die waiting.

But it’s easy to help fill the need. All you have to do is become a registered organ and tissue donor. You can register online at OrganDonor.gov or DonateLifeOhio.org.

You’re never too old or too sick to help save or improve someone’s life. Being an organ and tissue donor will never compromise the quality of the care you receive. And most religions support and encourage organ donation or leave the decision up to the individual.
